Assessing the Knowledge and Awareness of Domestic Waste Management among People in a Rural Community at Bengaluru

Abstract

Domestic waste management is one of the most pressing challenges affecting public health and environmental sustainability, particularly in rural areas where infrastructure and awareness remain limited. Improper disposal practices such as open dumping and burning of waste contribute to soil, water, and air pollution, while also increasing the risk of vector borne diseases. With the rapid growth of non-biodegradable waste, the importance of assessing people’s knowledge and awareness becomes essential in formulating strategies to promote effective waste segregation and safe disposal. This study was conducted to evaluate the knowledge and awareness of domestic waste management among people in a rural community of Bengaluru.
