Abstract

The study shows the dependency of the Gond tribe on nature economically, culturally and socially. Their routine, practices, and occupation justifies their love and respect for nature. They are still living in the preagricultural stage but possess various skills of bamboo craft, wood carving, jewelry making and painting. In Spite of having such skill sets they are considered vulnerable and remain backward. Also the Govt. rules do not allow them to use forest as per their need, hence they are suffering from unemployment, illiteracy and informal settlements. So there is a need to provide them a platform which will allow them to grow economically and also preserve their ancestral and unique cultural identification.
