Integrated Handloom Centre (Flood Resilient Community)

Abstract

Aim of the project – - To employ architecture in ways that give protection against natural catastrophes for people living in disaster-prone urban environments. Design shelters that can be prefabricated and used in a variety of ways during or after natural catastrophes. - To create a handloom production that can withstand floods/flood-resistant constructions. The goal is to use traditional and vernacular ways to reduce global vulnerability and strengthen the resilient capability of Chendamangalam’s handloom sector. - This initiative aims to provide a venue that provides a platform for the upliftment of Kerala's traditional weavers' community by encouraging tourism that includes all aspects of handloom manufacturing, training, design, and marketing through exhibitions, so attempting to give them a new lease on life. - To build a well-planned integrated handloom centre for Chendamangalam's handloom weavers, which would provide a platform for artistic weavers to improve the industry's image. - The goal of this project is to create an Integrated Handloom Centre that combines the aspirations of the traditional craft industry with tourism by giving visitors a hands-on experience. Due to a lack of infrastructure, low salaries, and instability in employment patterns, the handloom industry's growth has slowed dramatically over the years, leaving weavers in a condition of despair.
