dc.description.abstract | Company’s employees are one of its most valuable assets, and managing them can be the most important yet challenging tasks required of management. What is it that drives employee motivation? What causes an employee to WANT to do his or her job successfully The answers to these questions should be on employer's minds if they are to retain and create effective, productive work forces. Remember, your number one customers should be your people. A lack of employee motivation is a true killer. To some extent, a high level of employee motivation is derived from effective management practices. To develop motivated employees, a manager must treat people as individuals, empower workers, provide an effective reward system, redesign jobs, and create a1flexible workplace. There are many approaches to motivation: 1physiological, behavioral, 1cognitive, and social. It is the crucial element in setting and attaining goals—and research shows you can influence your own levels of motivation and self-control. According to various theories, motivation may be rooted in a basic need to minimize physical pain and maximize pleasure; or it may include specific needs such as eating and resting; or a desired object, goal, state of being, or ideal; or it may be attributed to less-apparent reasons such as altruism, selfishness, morality, or avoiding mortality. Conceptually, motivation should not be confused with either volition or optimism. Motivation is related to, but distinct from, emotion. | en_US |
