Authors: S, Vijayamalar; D. S, Midhuna
Abstract: Background:
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) refers to the sudden and unexplained death of an infant
under one year of age, typically diagnosed after autopsy, clinical history review, and death
scene investigation reveal no identifiable cause. Despite advances in healthcare, awareness and
understanding of SIDS among healthcare students remain limited. Objectives:
To determine the effectiveness of a structured teaching programme in enhancing the knowledge
of third-year BSc nursing students regarding SIDS. Methodology:
A quasi-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design was used. The study included 60
third-year BSc nursing students from SMT Nagarathnamma College of Nursing, Soladevanahalli, Bengaluru, selected through a non-probability purposive sampling technique. A structured knowledge questionnaire was used to assess knowledge before and after the
intervention. Results:
32
 Pre-test scores: Ranged from 7 to 31, with a mean of 16.58 ± 6.66 and a mean percentage
of 51.81%.  Post-test scores: Ranged from 15 to 32, with a mean of 28.55 ± 3.67 and a mean
percentage of 89.22%.  Statistical Analysis: A paired t-test revealed a highly significant improvement in
knowledge (t(59) = 14.93, p < 0.000).  Knowledge Level Distribution Post-Test:
 Inadequate: 1.7%
 Moderate: 8.3%
 Adequate: 90.0%
Conclusion:
The structured teaching programme significantly improved knowledge about SIDS among
nursing students. These findings highlight the value of planned educational interventions in
promoting infant health awareness among future healthcare providers.

Title: The Effectiveness of Ginger Tea in Reducing Menstrual Pain (Dysmenorrhea) Among Adolescent Girls Randomized Controlled Trial
Authors: S, Vijayamalar; Lalu, Libin; Ahmad, Ehzaz; Raj, Megha
Abstract: Menstrual pain, or dysmenorrhea, is a common challenge that disrupts the daily lives of
young women, particularly students who often struggle to balance academic demands with
their health. While modern medicine offers pharmacological solutions, many women seek
gentler, natural remedies to manage their discomfort. Ginger, long valued in traditional
medicine, carries anti-inflammatory properties that may offer relief from menstrual pain.
This study explored the effectiveness of ginger tea in alleviating dysmenorrhea among
nursing students. A quasi-experimental design was adopted, involving fifty participants who
reported moderate to severe menstrual pain. Ginger tea was administered twice daily during
the first two days of menstruation, and the intensity and quality of pain were assessed before
and after intervention
This research was undertaken to evaluate the effectiveness of ginger tea as a non pharmacological intervention for dysmenorrhea among nursing students. A quasi experimental design was used with 25 participants experiencing moderate to severe menstrual
pain. Ginger tea was freshly prepared and administered in measured doses (120 mL twice
daily) during the first two days of menstruation. Pain levels were assessed before and after
each administration using a standardized pain quality assessment scale. The results
demonstrated a significant reduction in pain intensity, cramping, radiating discomfort, and
associated symptoms after ginger tea consumption. Beyond physical relief, participants also
described feelings of relaxation, improved mood, and greater ability to carry out daily
activities, highlighting both physiological and psychosocial benefits.
The findings support the effectiveness of ginger tea as a simple, affordable, and accessible
remedy for menstrual pain. Unlike pharmaceutical options, ginger tea carries minimal risks,
making it a promising alternative for young women seeking natural management strategies.
This study emphasizes the need for greater awareness of complementary therapies in
women‟s health, encouraging healthcare providers and educators to share evidence-based
natural practices. By integrating such remedies, women may reclaim agency over their
bodies, reduce absenteeism from academic and social commitments, and experience a more
holistic sense of well-being during menstruation. The results affirm that ginger tea can serve as a simple, accessible, and side-effect–free
alternative for managing dysmenorrhea. By integrating such natural remedies into everyday
practice, young women can regain comfort and productivity during menstruation. This
research underscores the importance of exploring holistic approaches in women‟s health and
advocates for broader awareness of alternative therapies that empower women to manage
their own wellness.

Authors: S, Vijayamalar; Abdul Azeez, Khaseeb; Sunny, Melbin; Mariyam L, Leena
Abstract: Dengue fever remains a significant public health concern in India, particularly in urban areas
such as Bangalore North, where children form a vulnerable group. This quasi-experimental
study assessed the effectiveness of play-based strategies in enhancing knowledge, attitudes,
and practices (KAP) regarding dengue prevention among 60 school children aged 10–16
years at Silicon International Public School. Data were collected using a structured KAP
questionnaire through pre-test and post-test assessments. Play-based interventions, including
interactive activities, were implemented to promote awareness and preventive behaviors.
Results indicated that in the pre-test, 70% of participants had poor KAP scores and only
8.33% demonstrated good scores, whereas post-test findings showed that 75% attained good
scores with none remaining in the poor category. The paired t-test (t = 17.945, p < 0.05)
confirmed significant improvement in KAP levels. Chi-square analysis revealed associations
between KAP scores and variables such as place of residency, prior exposure to dengue,
participation in health programs, mosquito prevention measures, and history of dengue
diagnosis. The study concludes that play-based strategies are effective, child-centered tools
that enhance knowledge retention, foster positive attitudes, and promote sustainable
preventive practices against dengue, positioning school children as active change agents in
their communities

Abstract: Maladaptive behaviors are ineffective coping mechanisms that disrupt an individual’s normal
functioning. Adolescents aged 13–18 years are particularly vulnerable to these behaviors due
to the rapid psychological, emotional, and social changes they undergo. School-based
educational interventions have the potential to improve awareness and promote healthier
